Burgers With a Bite


Panfry, broil, grill or bake hamburger patties till golden brown on both sides. Spread with the following mixture. (This topping is for 4 burgers. It may be warmed but do not bring to boil or yogurt will separate.)

- 1 Tbsp minced garlic

      - cup minced fresh cilantro (coriander), or mint, or parsley

      - cup plain yogurt

      - 2 tsp curry powder

      - 1 tsp ground cumin

      - tsp ground cardamom

      - tsp ground turmeric

      - salt to taste

      - ground cayenne pepper taste

Serve burgers plain, or sandwich style in a bun or pita bread. Garnish plate with fresh mint leaves and/or slices of cucumber topped with a dollop of yogurt.

Suggested side dishes:

  • Fluffy rice ( to add pizzazz to the directions on the box, cook rice in chicken broth rather than water and add raisins and pine nuts, or other dried fruit and nuts).
  • Quick and delicious salad (serves 4)
    - 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
    - 2 medium cucumbers, chopped and seeded
    - 4 thinly sliced green onions
    - 5 oz. container of crumbled feta cheese
    - oil and vinegar dressing (bottled is fine, or add grated parmesan cheese and some of your favorite seasonings - garlic powder, basil, chives, dry mustard, oregano, marjoram, a dash of Worcestire sauce - to your own oil and vinegar mixture.
